Just in case you didn’t know, I have been on my sabbatical, a Daxko benefit. This benefit is available to full-time team members every 7 years of service. The team member will receive 4 weeks paid time off in addition to the normally allocated PTO for the year. The only rules to this benefit are:
- No interaction with work related things…at all,
- You have to take the 4 weeks consecutively,
- And, you have to take the time off within 12 months of your 7 increment year anniversary.
Pretty sweet huh?! I think so.
Many people have asked what I did while I was on sabbatical? Did I enjoy it? How did I feel coming back? Well, here are my answers.
I loved being on sabbatical. It really makes a difference to have multiple weeks off and being forced to not check on anything related to work. This is a challenge not because Daxko makes me work or check in at all times of day, but it is just my nature. Technology has made it easy to check email, instant message someone or anything else to get an update. I use the excuse of wanted to stay up to date on everything, but I guess I am just addicted to Daxko.
Some days I had to make myself do nothing and just lounge. This is weird for me because I usually like to keep moving and stay busy. I really enjoyed having the time off with my husband and kids during the holiday season. I was able to do crafts and cook goodies with my kids that normally we may get home too late to do during the week. Though I will admit, I only had dinner ready when hubby walked in the door once. (I am convinced that I am not made to be an at home mom. It takes a special person to do that.)
I got a “new” or remodeled kitchen and was able to organize things around the house and pinterest some décor ideas. After a while my husband said that I needed to go back to work. “Not because of the ideas, but because you actually have time to act on your ideas.”
I gave him a heavy duty drill for Christmas. (wink, wink)
My appetite for reading was reignited. Now I am determined to keep it going. My goal is to read fictional on the weekends but developmental/non-fictional during the week. I finished the first book in the Hunger Games trilogy this past weekend. I am currently reading Achieving HR Excellence through Six Sigma.
Last but not least, my sabbatical really made me appreciate Daxko for offering this benefit. This benefit is biblical in a sense. Read Exodus 23:10-11. Here it talks about resting and allowing for recovery. Daxko allowed me a time to relax, recover and rejuvenate for my benefit. Thanks Daxko!
Bring it on 2015!
