Juggling Processes

With its seven locations, multiple staff members, and a large membership base, the YMCA of Broward County had trouble keeping its many manual accounting processes in check.

“The volume of paperwork we were producing, and having to sift through it and watch out for duplicates, proved challenging,” says John Puleio, Broward’s Corporate Controller.

The Y, however, was using old, cumbersome software, says John, that was not user-friendly and relied on mostly manual data entry.

“We needed to find a way to get our volume of work into a system—one that would allow us to accomplish this accurately and timely,” he says.

To meet their needs, the Y launched Daxko Accounting, a fund-based accounting system that would allow John to make strategic decisions faster, empower front-line staff, and simplify the budgeting process.

Building Efficiency

Already a Daxko Operations user, John says, “Because of its integration with Daxko Operations, I would definitely recommend Daxko Accounting.”

“The Integration is great for us. It significantly cuts down on our manual work and is a huge help to post daily transactions with no manual input.”

The main payoff is the amount of time the Y saves, says John, allowing them to plan more proactively, particularly during budget season.

“We really like the system’s budgeting piece—we use it extensively.”

When it comes to managing modifications to their budget, Broward County changes its forecast in Daxko Accounting, not its budget, which proves very beneficial, says John. “By changing the forecast, we can create a new goal to put on paper.”

“The flexible controls and permissions really appealed to me—they were a huge selling point,” John says.

John can also generate key reports to view the financial stability of the full association by fund, branch, department, or
program.

“Daxko Accounting reporting features are so user-friendly, and the system is easy to navigate,” he says. “Customer support is phenomenal—they always find the answers for you.”
